Next year will mark the 100th anniversary of AIGA as an organization. At the very first meeting of the group that founded AIGA in 1914, each person had to bring his own chair. Inspired by this nugget of history and the powerful resonance of the chair as an object of design, AIGA is asking each chapter to customize their own chair.

To commemorate AIGA’s Centennial Celebration, seven initial chairs designed by Marian Bantjes, Laurie DiMartino, Aaron Draplin, Jessica Hische, Ellen Lupton, Mike Perry, and Rick Valicenti. were displayed at “Head, Heart, Hand” in Minneapolis in October to kick off the program and raise interest.

Our chapter’s board members have identified long time AIGA Arizona member and supporter, Eric Torres as an exemplary representative of our design community in Arizona and we are excited to announce that Eric will be designing the AIGA100 Chair on behalf of the Arizona Chapter.

Chairs will be exhibited at the AIGA gallery in New York in January 2014, and may be auctioned off subsequently (proceeds to benefit local chapters).
